JULY 2021 TOPIC SCHEDULE
Wednesday, July 7: Black History Month – Is it appropriate? Is it important? As of 2020 African-Americans represent 12.1% of the U.S. population. The Hispanic population is 18.7% of the U.S. population, and Italian-Americans make up 6% of the U.S. population. Why do we have Black History month? Why do we not have a Hispanic History month, or an Italian History month?
Wednesday, July 14: The U.S. Income Tax System-Fair or Unfair and to whom? More Americans today, regardless of political affiliation, believe that the U.S. Tax system is unfair and that corporations and the wealthy do not pay their fair share of taxes. Are they correct? How could the system be fairer? Do you think you pay enough, too much or the right amount of taxes? If taxes are graduated so that the rich pay a higher rate, should utility and other similar costs also be graduated?
Wednesday, July 21: If you could have had a different career, what would it have been and why? If you could go back in time, would you have trained for and chosen a different career, profession, job? Was the other career ever an option for you? If so, why did you not pursue it? Do you think your life would have been better, worse or just different, in the other profession? Let’s discuss.
Wednesday, July 28: Your Favorite Movie(s) Are you a movie watcher? If so, what is your favorite movie(s) of all time? Is there a particular genre of film that you prefer? Is there one movie, or a specific scene or line from a movie that has had a particular impact on you or that you always remember?
