Presenter: John Kenrick
Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 1:30pm

Raised in dire poverty during the 1930’s Depression, this versatile actor became the embodiment of the cynical New Yorker in plays and films like The Odd Couple The Fortune Cookie and Grumpy Old Men.  In honor of Matthau’s 100th birthday, we examine his most memorable roles, and his long friendship with frequent co-star Jack Lemmon.

John Kenrick is an American author, teacher, and theatre and film historian.  He has taught musical theatre history at several universities.  His 2008 book, Musical Theater:  A History, is a comprehensive history of musical theatre from ancient times to the present.
